In this video we see a state of the art igus robot mounted on an additional toothed belt axis, also known as the 7th axis. This 7th axis extends the reach of the robot and allows for greater flexibility in movement and positioning.

The robot is equipped with a flange on the 5th axis on which a black light is mounted for disinfection. This black light is an effective tool for killing bacteria and viruses, which is particularly important in environments such as hospitals or food processing plants.

The combination of the additional toothed belt axis and the black light makes this igus robot a versatile and powerful tool for a variety of applications. It's fascinating to see how technology is being used to make our environments safer and more efficient.

The following application was successfully tested in our Custom Testing Area at igus GmbH in Cologne.

The UR3e in combination with the Mech-Mind NANO is able to recognise objects using the MechMind VIZ software and transport them using the pick and place method.

The integrated 3D camera recognises contours and is able to localise objects. These are sucked up by the suction cup and placed in the desired container.

The possible applications of this flexible process are diverse and offer potential in various areas.

To be able to offer our customers security, we test your application free of charge in our Customer Testing Area. In this case, it was a palletizing application. The robot was to pick up the pallet and stack it on another position. In order to be able to guarantee the required working space, the robot was additionally mounted on a 7th axis, which led to a higher flexibility of the application.

Inexpensively expand the workspace of an articulated arm robot

In this application, a pick and place process with packages was to be automated. To realize the project as cost-effectively as possible, an igus jointed-arm robot was equipped with a vacuum suction pad to pick up the package safely.

However, since the robot's working space was too small, it was combined with an igus seventh axis. This additional single axis significantly expanded the working space and the customer could be offered the ideal solution.

The 7th axis from igus can be used individually and flexibly. In this application example, it is simulated how a collaborating robot picks up a package and places it on an assembly line for the next step. Due to the 7th axis, the robot has up to 4 times more working space than before and becomes much more flexible in the applications. The robot is tethered by a linear slide of the ZLW-20200 toothed belt axis, allowing it to move back and forth to pick up and place new packages. The axis impresses with a maximum speed of 0.3 m/s and offers a repeatability of +- 0.3 mm.

Easy expansion of the workspace for lightweight robots

Our 7th axis can be used individually and flexibly. It extends the action radius of robots by up to 6000 mm (according to technical design) and this makes them much more flexible in applications. For this axis an adapter kit is available for direct connection with your robot. The linear axis can be used for applications with precision requirements of 0.3 mm, with a load of up to 55 kg and a max. speed of up to 0.6 m/s. Our 7th axis is largely made of our tribologically optimized plastics and enables

An insight into the Customer Testing Area

The motto at RBTX is Test before Invest. In order to advise our customers as well as possible and to be able to offer you the best solution in the end, we test your application free of charge on our premises. Simply book an appointment in our webshop.

In this customer application, a pick & place task was tested with a model sandwich. The whole application was configured by the customer in our shop and consists of an igus Robolink DP jointed-arm robot mounted on a seventh axis for an additional working radius and more flexibility. To pick up the sandwich, a Schunk Cobot pump was used, which sucks in the workpiece through a generated vacuum.
